Rap often gets a well, bad rap, excuse the pun. Many people think of rap artists as “gangsters” and “thugs” and maybe many of the artists in this genre portray themselves as such, but this is not always the case. There are quite a few artists in rap today that are making a tremendous difference in the world whether through community involvement, financial charitable contributions or through using their fame for something great.

Take for example, Jay Z, one of the top earning rap artists of today. Jay Z has had several high profile charitable acts seen by many (1 million pledged to Hurricane Katrina victims and music for relief), but many people are unaware of just how involved he is the effort to bring to light the issue of the global water shortage.

Another great charitable giver, unlikely as it seems, is rap music’s original bad boy, Snoop Dogg. Snoop has held several events that have raised a considerable amount of money for several charities. He auctioned off an hour with him in the recording studio to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. He also organized a charity basketball game to raise money for the Save a Life Foundation.
