Rap Music And Its Artists Today
Rap music has come from a long line of artists who began the genre in an attempt to protest the modern society that they believe wronged them throughout the years. Created by African Americans who were tired of listening to a system that never seemed to care about them, Rap has evolved into something completely different over the years. It’s more akin to the punk music of the 70s, which was also started out of a pure hatred for the political and social system which was in place at the time. Now Rap has evolved to become one of the biggest revenue-producing machines of all time.
Rap started out with artists like Run DMC and Public Enemy. These artists had a lot in common, including their abrasive lyrics and the ability to spread a message of conflict and hardship to their fan-base. Artists such as Onyx and even Nelly continued this message throughout the 1990s and they were all very successful in communicating it to their fans. Now, people like Lil’ Wayne and even Souldja Boy have taken over, bringing words of non-conformity and hardship to a new audience of people who are still enjoying Rap to this very day.
