Rap Music And The Influential Works

Rap music has influenced a lot of different things in mainstream media. There are a few influential people that changed the way music is created now, and have an impact culturally.

Grandmaster Melle Mel was actually the first rapper to have a general message about something occurring in the neighborhood. The perfectly titled song “The Message” was a real shock in the early 80s because mainstream America did not necessarily know that stuff like that truly occurred in the South Bronx. It was a great change from the norm because a lot of the rap music was based off creating a party theme.

Tupac Shakur was one of the few people that was more like a political leader and rapper. Although, there was Public Enemy in the 80s that wanted to put forth more political messages, Tupac had a much wider audience for his music. He was a modern martyr with upbringing from his parents being Black Panther members. What he lacked in wordplay and dexterity, he made a much more direct approach with his heartfelt lyrics, his powerful messages to inner city youth as well as charisma in the Film Industry. In fact, there are classes that study his lyrics, scripture as if he was a modern day philosopher.

Jay-Z is one of the most well versed rappers that could relate to the inner city youth as well as have a significant impact globally. With over 16 years of creating his own music, he is veteran in the game and known for setting trends. Whether it be music, branding, clothing, or just the general way people do things. His influence goes beyond music as he is a brand himself. He leaves an imprint in all the ventures he does, and a lot of rappers aspire to get to that stage. The hits keep comin’: Tupac Tribute
